This 144-Year-Old Wisteria In Japan Looks Like A Pink Sky

These stunning photographs, which look like a glorious late evening sky with dashes of pink and purple, are actually pictures of Japan’s largest wisteria (or wistaria, depending on whom you ask) plant.

This plant, located in Ashikaga Flower Park in Japan, is certainly not the largest in the world, but it still comes in at an impressive 1,990 square meters (or half an acre) and dates back to around 1870 (the largest, at about 4,000 square meters, is the wisteria vine in Sierra Madre, California). Although wisterias can look like trees, they’re actually vines. Because its vines have the potential to get very heavy, this plant’s entire structure is held up on steel supports, allowing visitors to walk below its canopy and bask in the pink and purple light cast by its beautiful hanging blossoms.

Next time you go walking around barefoot in the water…

NOPE

No worries, that’s a Bobbit Worm. They live on the ocean floor, and unless you’re able to withstand a ton of pressure, you likely wouldn’t have your toesies nipped off by one since they live deeper than people walk on the ocean floor.

Bobbit Worms are kinda cool. And they were named after Laurena Bobbit, who cut off her abusive husband’s penis and threw it out of her car window as she drove off.

Wait.

Just as a warning, these can infest rocks in aquariums.  They’re an absolute menace and a pain to get rid of.

The African Renaissance Monument in Senegal, larger that the Eiffel tower and the statue of liberty .. Things you don’t see in mainstream media. @KrystVegaNeteru

This is beautiful.

I think this picture better illustrates the size of that monument.

I never even knew this existed this makes me so happy to find out about it

completed in 2010 o:

this statue isn’t majestic, beautiful, or inspiring, it’s a symbol of the reckless greed and outright disregard for the people of Senegal by Abdoulaye Wade. It cost $27 million to build, and Wade gets 35% of all profits, which go straight into his own pockets. The monument has received criticism since before it was even built, with people rioting and protesting in the streets. On top of all of that, it was built by a North Korean construction firm, with little to no involvement by the Senegalese public.
Ousmane Sow, a world renowned Senegalese sculptor called it “…aesthetically childish and banal in the extreme. It is anything but a symbol of African renaissance and it’s nothing to do with art”.
It’s a vanity project by an incompetent, bumbling politician, please do some research before talking about stuff like this.
